Actors, have you wondered how to attract more abundance into your life? Well, there’s a little known secret to abundance I want to share with you today.
As we get closer and closer to the holidays, a lot of people find this time to be especially sentimental and a time to feel inspired.
It’s that time of year whether you celebrate traditional American holidays or not, in which we can begin to reflect on what we’re truly grateful for.
The practice of generosity is an absolute joyous experience because it puts you into a positive emotional state.
And when you’re in the act of being generous, you feel abundant because you’re not lacking for anything.
So what is Abundance? Well, I really like this definition: plentifulness of the good things of life; prosperity.
What is an abundance mindset?
Stephen Covey coined the term in his best selling book “The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People.”
He looked at this phenomenon in terms of a scarcity mindset versus an abundance mindset.
An actor with a scarcity mindset might think, “I’m not good enough when I don’t book a job.”
When we approach our careers from a sense of lack, we feel like we’ve missed out on an opportunity.
But an actor with an abundance mindset might say, “every audition is a win even if I don’t book.”
Having an abundance mindset is about transforming your thoughts into positive messages that empower you and make you feel like you have what it takes. Because you do!
And when you have an abundance mindset you’ll show up differently. Energetically you’ll be vibrating at a much higher frequency and able to attract more opportunity within your life and therefore attract more money.
So here are 3 exercises you can use to step into your abundance mindset. You can use the very last exercise before an audition, an industry workshop, even when you’re on-set.
Now there are 3 ways you can step into your abundance mindset through the spirit of generosity.
How to Step into Abundance:
1) Volunteer Your Talents
You can even think of this as tithing your talents.
What are some opportunities in which you can share your talents or your gifts for free?
Is it singing at a nursing home?
There’s a great program called Singforyourseniors.org
Is it volunteering to be a reader for your friend’s self-tape?
Is it participating in a play reading?
Get creative.
It could be as simple as writing and performing a hilarious monologue for a friend you know needs cheering up.
How would it feel to give back doing what you love? Not only would you be inspiring others with your gifts but you’ll be giving yourself a renewed sense of purpose and the opportunity to do what you do best. Suddenly you’re performing and living in your purpose. How inspiring, fulfilling, and motivating right!?
2) Show Appreciation
Step into your abundance mindset through the spirit of generosity by giving your career a “thank you.”
What do I mean by this?
John Asaraf, who created myneurogym.com and was also in the Secret, once spoke about having both a vision board and an accomplishment board. It’s a great reminder to see how much you’ve truly accomplished and that the career glass of optimism is actually half-full, not half-empty.
It’s an easy way to visually step into an abundance mindset, transforming the fear, the self-doubt, and limiting thinking that we as actors can develop around our career. It’s a way to say thank you. It’s further evidence that the career we desire is possible.
3) Give Of Your Best Self
The 3rd way you can step into your abundance mindset through the spirit of generosity,
is by giving of your best self each and every time you show up whether it be
for a self-tape, audition, reading, or industry workshop.
So try this simple visualization;
Get comfortable with your feet flat on the floor and your hands and arms in a relaxed state.
Close your eyes.
Breathe comfortably. Allow the breath to flow in and out easily.
Now, imagine you’ve been called to set.
Ask yourself, when I walk on to set, what do my castmates, what does the crew, and what do my colleagues get to feel from me?
When I’m working with someone they feel (fill in the blank)?
Is it inspired, trustworthy, loved? Do you make them feel seen?
What do they get to feel because you’ve walked into the room?
Look around at the crew. You see cameras and lights.
Bravely step into that space…visualize it.
Now imagine from the very first person that comes to say hello to you, what do they feel from you? What energy are you contributing to this space?
What type of person are you when you walk onto set?
What do people feel around you? What happens when you say hello? What happens when you say good morning?
Tap into that feeling. What are people feeling from you?
Is it love, is it confidence, is it ease, do they feel inspired, do they feel as though they can play? Do they feel acceptance?
Whatever it is, again, tap into that feeling?
Allow it to wash over your entire body. Put your attention to where you feel this emotion the strongest and really feel into this emotion. Absorb it throughout your entire body.
That feeling is what you want to always key into. Here lies your power and your strength, your gift to the world. It’s yours alone.
You have an abundance of it to give.
And you share it with everyone on set freely and generously.
It feels good to be generous.
Take a deep breath in.
Breathe fully out. Exhale. Let it go.
